A day with my hubby and a 1/2 of a cow...

Yes, the title is right..
My husbands work, offers thier employees a
great deal on cattle that they raise..
they sell it for like $2 per pound..
so we purchased a 1/2 of a cow,,,
So we got up this morning and drove
about 2 hours away for our beef...
The trip was very nice..
John works long hours at his job, so a couple
of hours on the road together was nice..
We got to talk , joke around an laugh a bit..

The land we passed on our way up was beautiful..
Here is a horse farm..

And yes.. dont adjust your eyes..
this ole barn is leaning..big time...

When we got to the butcher..
I had the most fun watching this cute little cat..
He was laying under this tree , and one bird
just kept swooping down and pecking him on the butt..
in this picture he is meowing at the bird..

he came over and let me pet him....
How cute is he...

old farm land

and i just love this picture..
look at all those boots lined up,,,
just ready to go to work...

I heard a rooster crow..
( I love Roosters )
I have never lived in a place where i could have one
but I do love them,
so i got out and started following his call

And just about the time I spotted the rooster
I heard a snorting noise coming at me...
and look what was coming at me...
this huge but cute piggy...
He was disappointed though..
He thought I had a treat for him.. :(

Lots of Corn field...
As we heading home..
There are lots of fires going on right now around here
and one road got reallllll smokey..
and the smell was terrible..
I feel sorry for the people who live around there..

Well we loaded up..
the butcher cut us up, Roast, Steaks, ground beef,
cube steaks.. etc...

It was a fun and productive day..
And now Im off to marinade a couple of steaks for dinner..
Yummo...

Love your pictures Karen! What a beautiful trip you both had!

That is a great deal on the beef too. Wish we had a freeze like that so we could stock up too.

Karen,
that's awesome that you could get a half of a cow..at $2 a pound that's an excellent price. That's what I would call a "stockpile" price...meaning get lots when it's that inexpensive :) :) Cool..

I'm glad you got to spend some time with your hubby. The photos you took are fabulous...and I love old barns, countryside etc...even that poor "little" piggy...who didn't get a treat ;) :)

How did the steaks turn out? have a great week. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

Great photos Karen! That piggy was heading straight for you! I hope there was a fence to keep him at bay. :) Yippee for beef from a farm and cut to specs and in the freezer!! What blessings. How fun that you had that extended time to visit with your man...I enjoy long drives alone in the car...something special about it.

Many blessings to you!
Have a fabulous week!

In HIS Love,
Camille

Karen, we did that when we lived in Sioux Falls...it was great! We may do it again, but found a company that stocks our freezer for six months with beef/pork/chicken...etc...it's great, isn't it!
We want to buy a farm....praying for God's guidance.
Be blessed...I miss ya!
