Gentle and Quiet Spirit

As a woman, I'm wired to nurture, instruct,
and guide the people I care about.
Its a God-Given ability so that i can lead
my children into adulthood.

However, when I allow this mothering instinct
to affect my relationship with my husband,
he can feel controlled and manipulated.
If I try to change him (even w/ the best of intentions)
he can react in the opposite direction.

In 1 Peter 3:1-4 , These verses describe
the powerful influence of a gentle and quiet
spirit - the opposite of manipulation or control-
and the secret to positively influencing our husband.

In the same way, you wives must accept the
authority of your husbands. Then, even if some
refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives
will speak to them without any words... they will
be won over by observing your pure and reverent
lives. Dont be concerned about the outward beauty
of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry or beautiful
clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with
the beauty that comes from within, the unfading
beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. Which is so precious
to God..

In this passage, Peter challenged us not to be overly
concerned about outward appearance. We should always
strive to look our best for our husbands, but inward
beauty is far more valuable than external beauty.
Our physical body will change over time, but the
beauty of a quiet and gentle spirit has eternal
value and is always precious to God..

Prioritize:
God~~~ Husband~~~ Children

If we place the control at Gods feet,
The results will be perfect ,
in his timing and in his ways..

Great post Karen! Yes, only God can change him if He thinks there is changes to be made. That is the hardest thing for me to remember. I am constantly praying for my husband and giving him to God and I pray to God to help me with accepting his authority. Especially the times he talks to me like I'm nothing.
I just have to pray and hope it is just because he had a bad day and didn't mean it. I try not to fight back.
Wow, sorry that went way off subject. Can you tell I'm still having problems with this authority thing? lol

You did it again, rather God through you, did it again. There is just something about stopping over here that is so very soothing to my soul. Thank you. Thank you for the reminder and especially about laying it down as God's feet. I have to be reminded of that lots. Thank you.

Ellen

well said Karen!

I think that's what I appreciate about you the most....Your desire to please God and your husband. This is far to hard to come by nowadays in a world of the "liberated woman"

I'm so glad that you visited! I hope to see you again! :)

I love this post... No, nagging doesn't work! I love how we can give it over to God and pray. The work will be done in our husband's hearts much better this way than through OUR words! :)

Blessings, Kate

Love this...it also goes with my post..which was tongue in cheek..."Is She Real?"...because this is the heart of the matter.
I love the comment that if you try to control or manipulate him he usually does the opposite...oh, how true...and I have been married for 30 years and you would think I would remember that
Thanks enjoyed...good word
