Love Dare Saturday

You cannot change your spouse !
But here's what you can do..
You can become a
"Wise Farmer"
A farmer cannot make a seed
grow into a fruitful crop.
He cannot argue, manipulate,
or demand it to bear fruit.
But he can plant the seed into
fertile soil, give it water and
nutrients, protect it from weeds,
and then turn it over to God..

Love this post!!! Last year before my mother passed away I taught the Love Dare Bible study at my church. It is so strange that after we marry we then try to change our husband.

The Art of Marriage
Wilferd A. Peterson
Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.
A good marriage must be created.
In marriage the little things are the big things...
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is at no time taking the other for granted;
the courtship should not end with the honeymoon,
it should continue through all the years.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude
of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.
It is speaking words of appreciation
and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is not looking for perfection in each other.
It is cultivating flexibility, patience,
understanding and a sense of humor.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal,
dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.
It is discovering what marriage can be, at its best.

Karen,
This is so true! So many people try to change one another and it is not in any person's power other then the person themselves WANTING to change. We fall in love with people sometimes for particular reasons and then it seems like those same reasons we come to resent somehow. Sad, but sometimes true. Nurturing our loved ones is the right thing to do, but why sometimes is it so hard and do we end up taking each other for granted? Hmmm your posts always get me thinking. :-) Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Jill

I love this. It's so true and yet so easy to forget when in the midst of the craziness of life with our spouses. Such good reminders on your blog. Thanks, Karen.
